Great satisfaction in making a difference in the lives of
women and families in our community; new contacts in our area and
region; and many wonderful new friends! Every Soroptimist may attend
meetings of any Club in the world and participate in conferences and
meetings worldwide.

Soroptimist International of
Salem, Oregon chartered in 1943 is a member/chapter of
Soroptimist International of the Americas, Northwestern Region.
Soroptimist International is a worldwide organization for
professional and business women of all ages and ethnic groups
from all walks of life and cultures. Members are directors,
managers, business owners, writers, volunteers doing
professional tasks, educators, government workers,
business owners and
self-employed, carrying out service projects together to advance
human rights and the status of women.
In 1921, eighty professional women formed the first
Soroptimist club in Oakland, CA to foster the ideal of service
for women and girls worldwide.
Soroptimist International is now comprised of four federations
with nearly 100,000 members in more than 120 countries and
Soroptimist International of the Americas is the largest of all
four federations which are Americas (SIA), Europe (SIE), Great
Britain & Ireland (SIGBI), South West Pacific (SISWP). |

PROJECTS
Through Soroptimist International and Soroptimist
International of the Americas.
Making a Difference for Women grants to fund programs in
communities of individual clubs; Prevention of Domestic
Violence Initiatives.
SI Quadrennial Project 2003-2007: Project Independence: Women
Survivors of War, provides direct aid to women in war-torn
countries.
Disaster Relief Fund, to provide grants for relief work in
areas affected by disasters.
The Dignity Program: Helping Women in Paraguay Move from
Poverty to Independence
Grant of Friendship program, hosting Soroptimists from other
countries |

SALEM
SOROPTIMIST FUND RAISING PROJECTS ―
Soroptimist International of Salem holds an annual
auction/wine tasting event to benefit local charities.
Other fund raising projects include a business fair, rummage
sales, and raffles. Funds from these events support projects
and awards through the Soroptimist International of Salem
Foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) organization. |
